Small footprint, well-built desktop
By W. Pillow
I bought the 5310f Slimline at Best Buy after extensive review of HP desktops on Amazon, the HP Web site, and on the PC magazine site. After two other HP desktops I was pre-sold on the brand. I like the 5310's small size and the solid feel of higher quality materials (doesn't seem like cheap plastics). It was very easy to set up and the keyboard is soft-touch but responsive. I would have liked a couple more USB ports, but what's available is sufficient (I may have too many other gadgets to plug in). My old 17-inch flat screen HP monitor was not compatible with Windows 7, nor was my HP inkjet printer or HP scanner, so now the 5310 is paired with a new widescreen monitor (Gateway) and a new HP Photosmart printer/scanner/copier and all are working beautifully. Still getting used to Windows 7 (transitioning from Windows XP Professional) but I find it user friendly and intuitive. The 5310 is a good value and I'm glad I did not spend more on a desktop since I had to unexpectedly buy the monitor and printer, too. I use it extensively for e-mail, word processing, photos, music downloads and Web browsing. It's much faster than the 7 year old HP Pavilion it replaced (and about $250 cheaper than its predecessor). I think it's a great buy for home and light office use.

Worst computer purchase I have ever made.
By Alex M. Wymore
Anyone considering buying a Slimline model from HP should forget about it. You will regret it. I have had mine for two years now, and the motherboard has had to be replaced three times. Do a search on Google, and you will find that many many Slimline owners have had the same problem. HP did a recall on these, but they put the same faulty motherboard back in after I sent mine in for the recall, and it just died again. I called customer service, and they told me that I would need to buy a service plan for $99 just to talk to somebody about their piece of crap computer. Why would I pay $99 just so they might "fix" my computer again just so that it could crash again in another couple of months. I will never buy another HP product.

HP has NO customer service, would NEVER purchase another!
By C. Jean
Purchased a Pavilion Slimline Desktop 7/08. Started having trouble 9/08, computer only 2 months old and needed FULL RECOVERY. Another FULL RECOVERY 10/31/08, 12/20/08, and 2/5/09. Emailed HP 2/11/09 about my problem and received word I would have response from customer care specialist. No call ever came. Emailed back 2/27/09 that I had still received no call. 3/3/09 response from HP that they were again escalating me to customer care specialist. No call ever came. I emailed yet AGAIN 3/30/09. They assured me someone would call, they were just busy with other customer issues and would respond as soon as possible. NEVER received a call. Talked with customer care specialist today and she informed me I am out of warranty and their is nothing they would do. I was not even slightly eligible for any recompense. It was her opinion that I should have hounded them day and night until they contacted me. Therefore, because I only have evidence of 20 calls and or emails to them I did not do enough to get this matter resolved. She told me she did not even read the history of my tech support calls, because, " I was out of warranty." Customer care specialist. I'm glad I didn't just speak to a regular member of the customer care team, imagine what they would have said. When I mentioned that it seemed to me HP only contacted me AFTER the warranty expired by design, she did not deny it. HP HAS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS, RUN DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM A PURCHASE OF THEIR COMPUTERS!!!!!The computer is worthless since it has to be recovered every 1-2 months you can not save any work on it at all....You have to spend approximately 3 hours every month just keeping the thing running as a basic internet hub and word processor. Every recovery requires a reload of Microsoft Office, Printer drivers and antivirus software just to get back up and running. WHAT A SHAME HP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT QUALITY!!!!!
